Candle Care & Maintenance

Follow these important guidelines to extend the lifespan of your candle and allow it to burn cleanly, evenly and safely.

Remove candle from all packaging prior to burning.

Since paper is extremely flammable, do not burn your candle in the cardboard packaging. Only burn your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface and away from flammable objects or materials.

Trim wick to approximately ¼” before each lighting.

This is one of the most important steps that must be followed and we can't say it enough: TRIM THE WICK BEFORE EACH LIGHTING. Trimming the wick prior to each lighting will prevent a tall flame which results in unwanted smoking and uneven burning. Additionally, if the wick is too large, the walls of the vessel can become too hot and potentially crack, so trim, trim, trim!

Do not leave wick trimmings in the wax. Keep wax clean and free of any debris.

Do not burn for more than 3-4 hours at a time.

For our Classic candles, burn approximately 3-4 hours per session and for our Petite candles, burn approximately 2 hours per session.

For the first burn session, it is best to burn the candle until the wax is completely melted across the surface or comes close to reaching the edge of the vessel. This enables the candle to burn evenly and prevents tunneling during subsequent burnings.

Burning our Classic candles for over 4 hours and our Petite candles for over 2 hours will produce an extra large flame which will cause smoking and may allow the vessel to overheat, potentially cracking the glass.

Keep the candle wick centered.

After a few lightings, the wick may lean or move off center, especially in softer natural waxes such as our 100% soy wax. If this occurs, extinguish the flame and while the wax is still warm, simply use a wick dipper or the back of a metal spoon to nudge the wick back to the center of the vessel and away from the sides of the glass. Not doing so will produce an uneven surface and may cause the flame to eventually touch the side of the vessel, which can crack the glass.

Do not leave your candle unattended.

For utmost safety, always burn your candle in sight and out of reach of children and pets. This will enable you to monitor the flame height as well as the position of the wick.

Keep away from drafts, fans, vents and breezes.

A candle flame that is subjected to drafts has the potential to move erratically. Not only can this cause smoking and soot, but can cause the wick to become uncentered resulting in vessel walls becoming overheated and cracking.

Discontinue use when 1/4” of wax remains.

Doing so will cause the glass to overheat and potentially crack.  When only 1/4” of wax is left in the glass vessel, discontinue use and repurpose your glass instead. When the wax is still soft, wipe the remaining wax clean. Or if the wax is hard, heat under warm water until soft. Wipe clean. Wash the glass with dish soap and warm water. Please repurpose your candle glass as flower vases, drinkware, or vessels to hold makeup brushes, pens and many other items.
